Mary Jeanette (Kennedy) Fraser, aged 66, of Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow surrounded by her family. She was born on October 15, 1958 in Westville, Pictou County, as the youngest daughter of the late Daniel and Irene (Mac Naughton) Kennedy. Mary was a loving wife to the late Elwood Fraser, a fantastic mother to Christopher and his wife Samantha, and a doting grandmother to her cherished grandchildren Nolan and Mason, who held a special place in her heart.

Mary graduated from Westville High School in 1977 where she served as student council secretary during her final year. She also completed a one-year bookkeeping course at Stellarton Vocational School. After finishing school, she worked at the office of Hawker Siddeley Steel Company in Trenton, NS. Shortly after getting married, she ran the Westville #1 Video Store. Mary had a passion for horses and was active with the Pictou County Horse Club that brought together many communities across Nova Scotia. Additionally, she participated in the North Colchester Exhibition in Pictou County.

Mary and Elwood shared a deep love for horses including Clydesdales, Belgians and Percherons. She enjoyed giving sleigh rides during wintertime and hosting summer weddings along with trips to Tim Hortons with her husband and sisters known as “the Kennedy girls.” Mary loved gatherings whether it was playing cards or attending Wednesday evenings’ meetings of the “Fatty Club.”

She is survived by her son Chris and daughter-in-law Samantha; her two grandsons Nolan and Mason (who will surely miss their Grandma’s snacks); brother Bill Kennedy (Colleen) from Burton, NB; sisters: Colleen Zdan (Bruce) from Duncan, BC; Cathy White (John) from Sussex, NB; brothers-in-law: David Cormier from Westville, NS; Leonard Fraser (Donna), Allan Fraser (Mary); sisters-in-law: Bev Clark (David), Iva Campbell (Keith), Dale Hislop (Donnie), Velda Fulmore (David), Helen O’Connor (Chuck), along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Elwood in 2023; brothers: James Daniel Kennedy and John Vernon Kennedy; sisters Martha Jean Fraser and June Elizabeth Ann Cormier as well as two infant sisters; brothers-in-law: Charlie Fraser and David Zdan; sister-in-law Faye Kennedy; father-in-law Lloyd Fraser; mother-in-law Evelyn Fraser; and brother-in-law Bill Roddick.

The visitation will take place on Thursday, September 25th 2025 at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville from 2:00 to 4:00pm and again from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday September 26th at 11:00am at Eagles Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will follow later on.

Flowers are welcome or donations can be made in memory of Mary to support Elwood Fraser’s Multipurpose Barn at the Pictou-North Colchester Exhibition.
