After the brewery above it shut down four months ago, the well-known restaurant in downtown Whitby is also closing its doors. 12welve Bistro has announced the “sale of business assets and conclusion of operations” after almost seven years of service.
The last day for this beloved spot, often chosen by couples on first dates or anniversaries, will be Valentine’s Day.
Owner John Allen described the closure as a “difficult decision.”
“This decision was not made lightly. Since opening our doors, 12welve Bistro has had the privilege of welcoming thousands on thousands of guests, celebrating milestones, hosting events and becoming part of the everyday lives of so many in the community. What began as a vision for a warm, welcoming and elevated dining experience became something far more meaningful because of the people who supported it.”
“We are deeply grateful for the loyalty, trust, and support our guests and community have shown us over the years,” he added. “Most importantly, we want to thank every member of our team, past and present, whose passion, professionalism and dedication made 12welve what it was. This business was never just about food and service; it was about people, relationships, and creating a place where moments were shared.”

The restaurant assured patrons that all events currently booked will proceed as planned. Event deposits will also be honoured and clients with upcoming events will be contacted directly for next steps.

Brock Street Brewing moved into the three-storey, 19,000-square-foot building on Brock Street in heart of Whitby’s downtown in 2019. The business included an 8,000-square foot brewery, a bottle shop and eventually a private lounge and event space called 12 twelve Bistro & Tapwerks.
The brewery launched in 2015 on Hopkins Street in Whitby before moving downtown four years later while being separately owned from the restaurant; both were tenants in that building.
Brock Street Brewing closed its doors back in October.
