People living in Mississauga, Toronto, and other areas of the western GTA should be aware that GO trains will not operate this weekend on a typically busy part of the Lakeshore West line.
To carry out “essential improvements” to the route, train services will be suspended all day Saturday and Sunday between Union Station in downtown Toronto and Aldershot GO in Burlington, according to an email update from Metrolinx, the provincial agency responsible for GO Transit, sent Friday morning.
This means there will be no train services during that time in west Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, and Burlington.
The transit agency also mentioned there would be some “late-night service adjustments” tonight (Friday).
Regular service is expected to resume on Monday.
Transit officials stated that GO trains will still run along the Lakeshore West line between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO this Saturday and Sunday. However, they noted that trains usually scheduled to start or end at Confederation and West Harbour stations in Hamilton won’t be operating.
The two-day service interruption is necessary “to accommodate critical track work,” Metrolinx explained. They added that “these track closures are required to make essential improvements to bring (riders) better, faster and more frequent trips.”

Officials advised GO customers to keep these points in mind this weekend:
GO replacement buses will be available, stopping at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville, and Clarkson GO stations before heading directly to Union Station Bus Terminal in Toronto. There won’t be any GO Transit service going to or coming from Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico or Exhibition GO stations. Customers traveling to those stations are encouraged to use local transit options like TTC or Mi Way.
Metrolinx stated that the “planned construction” is happening along the Lakeshore West corridor as part of efforts for expansion. Work continues at Long Branch GO and on the Burloak Drive underpass.
“Crews are also doing rehabilitation infrastructure work that’s critical for maintaining safe and reliable service on the Lakeshore West line. This includes work at the Etobicoke Creek bridge and Bronte Creek,” the agency mentioned in its Friday update. “This work can only be completed when train service is modified.”
