Poll: Half of Americans think ICE is making cities less safe

Half of Americans think that ICE is making cities in the U. S. less safe, according to a new CNN poll.

The survey, conducted from January 9 to 12, found that 51% of respondents believe ICE’s enforcement actions are making urban areas more dangerous rather than safer. Only 31% think that ICE’s activities contribute to increased safety.

Additionally, just 26% of those surveyed felt that the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis last week was an “appropriate use of force”.

A significant 56% described the shooting as an inappropriate use of force, with nearly half stating that Good’s death highlights broader issues regarding how ICE operates.

Furthermore, there has been a noticeable shift in attitudes towards Donald Trump’s immigration policies; now, 52% feel his deportation efforts have gone too far, up from 45% who expressed this view last February.

Slotkin says she’s under investigation for video telling troops to disobey illegal orders

Elissa Slotkin, the senator who created a video urging US troops to “refuse illegal orders,” revealed that the US attorney for DC has requested an interview regarding her involvement in the social media post.

In her X post, the Michigan lawmaker stated that “intimidation is the point” and emphasized that “it’s not going to work”.

Following her initial video release, Donald Trump accused Democrats of engaging in “seditious behavior” and even shared calls for their execution. Today, Slotkin mentioned that after Trump’s response last November she received a bomb threat at her home and was provided “24/7 security from Capitol police,” while her parents were subjected to harassment late at night.

“Anyone who disagrees with him [Trump] becomes an enemy and he weaponizes the federal government against them,” she said. “Right now, speaking out against the abuse of power is the most patriotic thing we can do.”

Republican senator Josh Hawley was among five GOP lawmakers who supported advancing a war powers resolution aimed at limiting Trump’s ability to conduct further military action in Venezuela; however today he announced plans to back Republican efforts to block a full vote on this resolution scheduled for today.

This follows confirmation from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent via letter to the Senate foreign affairs committee stating there are no U. S. troops present on Venezuelan soil.

Comer says he’ll also initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against Hillary Clinton

James Comer, Republican chair of the House oversight committee told reporters today about his plans to hold Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress following her refusal to testify before his committee.

This comes after both Bill and Hillary Clinton ignored subpoenas requiring their testimony concerning ongoing investigations into Jeffrey Epstein’s case. Their attorneys informed Comer via letter they would not comply with these requests.

The response led Comer to schedule a mark-up session aimed at holding Bill Clinton accountable for contempt; this action has now been extended toward Hillary Clinton as well. The committee vote will take place on January 21 before proceeding to the House floor.
