Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are looking into an ATV accident that resulted in the death of a 5-year-old child in Brudenell, Lyndoch, and Raglan (BLR) Township over the weekend.
Renfrew County paramedics, along with police, responded to the scene around 11:00 a. m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Officials mentioned in a release that the single-vehicle crash involved a tracked ATV on private property. Initial details from the investigation indicate that the sole operator was a 5-year-old child who was wearing a helmet when the ATV hit a tree.
An ambulance took the child to a nearby hospital, and then an air ambulance transferred the 5-year-old to a regional trauma center. Unfortunately, there at the hospital, the child passed away due to their injuries.
The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service as a post-mortem is set to take place.
If anyone has information about this collision, they are encouraged to reach out to Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-757-2600 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers.
