One of the four individuals charged with possessing explosives and making firearms in London, Ont., has been released on bail.

Zekun Wang, also known as Alex, appeared at the London courthouse on Wednesday, where Justice of the Peace Kristine Diaz revealed her decision after a lengthy bail hearing last week.

“You saw it in there. [Wang] was emotional when her worship said he would be released. I think he’s excited to get home and he’s excited to move the case forward,” defence lawyer Nick Cake said.

The evidence shared during the hearing, along with the reasons for granting Wang bail, is protected by a publication ban.

Wang, along with Jerry Tong, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, collectively face over twenty charges including possession of explosives and firearm manufacturing. The charges arose following an extensive search of a property located at 212 Chesham Place, north of Western University.

Police began investigating inside the residence at 212 Chesham Pl., in London, Ont., on Jan. 24, 2026. (Alessio Donnini/CBC)

The investigation started after police received a trespassing report from the university on Jan. 24 when two men entered the Claudette Mac Kay-Lassonde Pavilion, one of their engineering buildings overnight.

One suspect was apprehended just outside the building. The inquiry led authorities to a nearby home in University Heights where they arrested three others.

Wang faces seven charges which include breaking and entering with intent, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possessing an explosive substance, storing a restricted weapon carelessly, possessing a prohibited firearm, having a loaded firearm at his residence, and manufacturing a prohibited firearm.

Bail conditions for Wang

Co-accused Han was denied bail during his hearing on Feb. 13 and remains behind bars.

Tong and Ji have appeared in court multiple times but their bail hearings have not yet been scheduled.

Wang will stay in custody until he’s fitted with a GPS monitor as part of his release conditions. He must remain under house arrest around-the-clock supervised by two sureties who each posted $200,000.

Other requirements include no access to internet or cell phones unless contacting his lawyer and no access to weapons. He’s also required to surrender his passport.

Wang is not allowed in London except for court appearances and cannot go onto any property owned by Western University.

Additionally, he’s prohibited from contacting his three co-accused except when accompanied by his lawyer for defense preparations.

“For Mr. Wang, he probably wants to go home and sleep in a bed. For me, let’s get back to work. There’s disclosure to review and I need to meet with my client to start planning out what our next steps are and how we plan to attack these charges,” Cake said.</P

Wang’s next court date is set for April 23.
