John Rzeszutek passed away at the age of 82 on May 21, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:30pm, with a visitation one hour before the service.

John Thomas Rzeszutek, Sr peacefully left us on May 21, 2025 surrounded by his two daughters. Born on August 16th, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Margaret (Shudy) Rzeszutek, he grew up and went to school in Spring Lake Park, MN. John joined the U. S. Army in June of 1964 where he trained as an Engineer and earned an Expert Rifleman badge. After being honorably discharged, he became a skilled Millwright tradesman. Over his career, John held foreman and supervisor roles in industrial metal fabrication and welding. He worked as an engineering liaison for completing structural prints and installing bridge cranes, monorails, service rails, conveyors, and other construction projects. John also succeeded in many side projects thanks to his innovation and creativity; he built garages, outbuildings, play/treehouses and portable fish houses.

Throughout his life he lived in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota. His fondest childhood memories include fishing all over Minnesota with his dad and being spoiled by his grandma and grandpa who called him “Joshu,” along with enjoying his mom’s cooking and her fun personality. He credited his sense of humor to her influence and is remembered for making people laugh with his unique character. He loved fishing throughout his life-taking trips to Canada with friends & family-and enjoyed innovating by rebuilding old cars while spending time with his children. The tranquility of the lake brought him peace as he captured sunsets and moon rises while listening to the sounds of the Loons.

John often mentioned that driving up north was interesting because it allowed him to learn about new places. He cherished flying to Colorado just to gaze down at the landscape below while spending time with his grandchildren who reminded him so much of how wonderful it was when they were young.

He is survived by: sons John Jr. (Tammy), Chad, Casey; daughters Evangeline (Ryan) Mariya; along with granddaughters,, grandsons , and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Carol , Margie , and June ; daughter-in-law Terry ; great-grandson Patrick ; cousin Jerry ; nephew Todd , and all other family members or friends who have passed away.
