Provincial police have lifted a shelter-in-place order on Saturday in Simcoe, Ont., which was issued while officers dealt with an active situation involving possibly multiple armed individuals.
In a news release Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police reported that Colborne Street N., Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street were closed as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to an update from the OPP on Saturday, officers responded to a call at a Kent Street N. location regarding weapons where it was suspected that a firearm had been discharged at about 12:58 p. m.
No injuries were reported and police are continuing their investigation, the OPP stated in their update on Saturday.
Residents in the area were advised to take shelter immediately, secure all doors and windows, close curtains or blinds, and if driving, head directly to their destination, according to the OPP’s release on Saturday.
The provincial police also urged residents not to approach or interact with the suspect and to avoid picking up hitchhikers.
Those who were outside of the affected area were asked not to travel into it. The OPP mentioned that people should expect an increased police presence.
“We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter in place can cause,” the OPP said in Saturday’s release. “The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation.”
