Authorities report that a man from Toronto is facing charges for an alleged hate-fueled attack on a Muslim worker at a hotel in Markham.

York Regional Police state that officers were dispatched to the scene of an assault at a hotel located near Highway 7 East and Commerce Valley Drive West shortly after 3 a. m. on Sept. 28.

The police found a 54-year-old hotel employee suffering from serious head injuries and he was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

According to officials, an intoxicated guest became confrontational after his credit card was declined while attempting to pay for his room.

Investigators mentioned that a verbal altercation ensued and the suspect’s “demeanour changed” upon discovering that the hotel employee was Muslim.

They claim that the 31-year-old suspect threatened the victim’s life and then pursued him to a room where he violently assaulted him.
