The death of a local teenager remains unsolved, even after 52 years.
On March 16, 1974, the body of 14-year-old Karen Lee Ann Caughlin was discovered in a ditch just west of Petrolia.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made another appeal for any information that might help identify who is responsible for the teen’s death.
According to police, Caughlin had been at the “Rose Garden Roller Rink” in Point Edward and was dropped off at a friend’s house on Brock Street in Sarnia around midnight, but she never got inside.
In 2017, authorities revealed new details indicating her injuries were consistent with being hit by a car. They stated it involved a purple, high-performance Chrysler from either 1970 or 1971.
It’s believed her body was moved from where the incident occurred to where it was eventually found.
“The Criminal Investigation Branch and the Lambton County OPP remain committed to this active investigation,” said OPP Inspector Chris Avery in a news release. “The public’s assistance has generated several leads in the past years, and we encourage anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and help us seek justice for Karen and her family.”
OPP are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
