Authorities report that a fire occurred on Sept. 10 at Echo Island on Kawagama Lake in Algonquin Highlands.

A 47-year-old man from Bradford has been charged with arson following an investigation into the early September fire.

On Sept. 10, the Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police detachment, along with local emergency services, responded to the blaze on Echo Island in Kawagama Lake, located within the Township of Algonquin Highlands. The fire was deemed suspicious, prompting the OPP Crime Unit to take over the investigation.

As a result of this inquiry, John Mac Fadden was arrested and charged with:

Arson – damage to property contrary to section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada

The suspect has been released from police custody and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on a future date.
