Deputies from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office report that a woman from Waterloo was arrested for DWI following a two-car accident on Thursday at the intersection of State Route 96 and County Road 6 in Phelps.
According to deputies, 20-year-old Rosemarie Bellone, who lives in North Rose, was traveling east on Route 96 and had stopped to turn left onto County Road 6 around noon. While she slowed down, another car coming from behind struck her vehicle. That car was driven by 62-year-old Trina White from Waterloo.
Investigators determined that White had been tailgating and rear-ended Bellone’s car. They later found out that White was intoxicated and took her into custody. She was then taken to the Ontario County Jail for processing.
Bellone received treatment for minor injuries at Geneva General Hospital.
The New York State Police provided assistance at the scene.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
