On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Kevin Ermil Kemp passed away at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, surrounded by family. Born October 14, 1963, he was the oldest child of Roy and Laurel Kemp and the big brother of Michele (Steve) and Carmen. He was a devoted father to his three kids, Jeffrey, Jackson, and Brooklyn; a supportive father-in-law to Ravinder (Jeffrey); a beloved uncle to his niece and nephews; and a proud “Grump” to his two grandkids, Theodore and Sebastian.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kevin spent his childhood across Western Canada. In 1983, he started his post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan before moving on to Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. While there, he fully engaged with campus life by coaching the mooting team and co-creating Legalmania-a humorous musical crafted with his close friend Andrew Werbowski that drew inspiration from 1960s Beatlemania. This production allowed him to showcase his famously spot-on Kermit the Frog impression.

After graduating from Osgoode in 1989, Kevin completed his articles at Mc Carthy Tétrault LLP and worked as an associate lawyer there until leaving in 1993 to start his own practice.

Kevin eventually settled in Alliston, Ontario where he became an active member of the community. He ran for mayor in 2014 and wrote the popular newspaper Mouseland-an incisive satire on local politics. To honor his younger sister Carmen who passed away in 2002, he founded the Carmen Vanderwater Medical Centre in town.

With a sharp mind and unwavering work ethic paired with a strong commitment to honesty-these qualities shaped both his career as a litigator and personal life. Those who knew him well will remember him for his outgoing nature, adventurous spirit, and kindness.

Above everything else, Kevin valued being genuine-both himself and others around him. His absence will be profoundly felt by family members, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In line with Kevin’s wishes there will be no funeral service. The family requests that those wanting to pay tribute consider making a donation to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation.
