A woman from Barrie has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of her 10-year-old child.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Barrie police reported that the child was discovered deceased after officers responded to a well-being check on December 31. When they arrived at the townhouse complex at 177 Bayview Drive near Little Avenue around 3 p. m., they found the 47-year-old woman inside one of the units and she was taken to a nearby hospital.

“Once she was cleared medically, investigators laid the charge on Tuesday, January 6, and she was remanded into custody,” police stated in the news release.
Officers from both the Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are continuing their investigation.
Due to the sensitive nature of this incident and to respect the family’s privacy involved, police mentioned that updates will only be shared as permitted by the ongoing investigation.
