Kathy Galay (nee Syroid) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born on January 11, 1936 in Espanola, Ontario to Harry (1999) and Jennie (1999) Syroid. Kathy is now reunited with her loving husband, Dennis Bohdan (2019), whom she was married to for 57 years. She was the dear sister of the late Marie (2020) and is survived by her sister Jeannette (Jeana) Syroid. She will be fondly remembered by her aunt Cleo Sokoloski and many cousins in Saint Catherine’s, Espanola, Toronto, Montreal, Amherstburg and Ukraine.
Kathy was a Chocha, Aunt, and Nina to many children of her friends. Stevan, Greg, Debbie, and Markus were lucky to have her as their godmother.
Kathy and Dennis had a passion for travel; they explored various destinations across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Their trip to their father’s homeland of Ukraine held a special place in their hearts.
She was an active member of several organizations including MYHO, OYK, Ukrainian National Federation, W. E. S. U. N., and Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church. Kathy enjoyed participating in selling pierogi at events like Salvation Army Christmas dinners and Easter telethons. She also took part in Trident Investment Club and Southwood Lakes Social Club. To know Kathy was truly a gift; she listened well and remained loyal to all her friends from childhood onward. Her strong will and faith brought comfort to everyone around her. In memory of Kathy, donations can be made to Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church or a charity of your choice. Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – South Chapel (3048 Dougall Ave., 519-253-7236) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM & from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM with Panahyda (prayers) at 8:30 PM. Visitation will continue at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church (601 Lake Trail Dr., Windsor) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM followed by burial at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
