Ontario family desperate for answers after 13-year-old son’s death

It’s been one week because the loss of life of 13-year-old Subhan Mareer, an occasion that has eternally modified the lives of his relations.

“The unexpected and violent death of our son has traumatized our whole family,” Syed Mareer, father of Subhan, informed reporters on Thrusday. “The worst part of it has been that we don’t have any answers about what happened,”

Syed Mareer stated his household of six had gone to the Oshawa Centre mall on Friday, Aug. 16, between 4 p.m.. and  5:30 p.m. Mareer stated they parked their blue Honda Odyssey on the mall’s second entrance, close to the Tim Hortons.

The household, practising Muslims, had simply completed Friday prayers, Mareer stated.

Subhan, the household’s eldest son, informed his father he wished to remain within the automobile and follow traces for an upcoming play.

Syed Mareer informed reporters Subhan hated procuring and there was nothing uncommon about him asking to remain behind.

The household went contained in the mall, leaving Subhan seated within the center seat with the automobile key.

When the household returned about 45 minutes to an hour later, they discovered Subhan with the seatbelt wrapped tightly round his neck.

“And obviously, a father would panic,” Mashid Bessed, a household buddy stated in an interview with reporters on Thursday.

“(Subhan’s father) started pulling the seatbelt but couldn’t because it was wrapped twice around his neck.”

Bessed stated Subhan hadn’t been in his unique seat.

“When they left him he was seated in the middle, but when they found him he was in the back, passenger corner,” Bessed stated. “But when you look at him, the way it was entangled… that itself raises questions for any parent.”

The household says somebody close by helped them minimize the seatbelt free.

“I grabbed him, gave him CPR… basic treatment and then after that, his heart started beating back and I said ‘thank God,’” Syed Mareer stated.

Police arrived and Subhan was rushed to Lakeridge Heath hospital in Oshawa.

Mareer stated that medical doctors informed him Subhan had suffered critical mind harm and that there was an opportunity he wouldn’t be the identical youngster. “And I said, I don’t care. I’ll pay whatever you want. I want him back. I want him alive.”

Subhan was in a coma for 5 days and was taken off of life help by his household on Wednesday. He handed away that morning.

Durham Police says no proof of criminality

In an emailed assertion to Ontario Chronicle on Friday, Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss stated Durham Regional Police was investigating the circumstances round Subhan’s loss of life.

“Investigators have reviewed, and continue to review, surveillance footage from vehicles in the area as well as the mall,” Bortoluss stated.

“At this time in the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest criminality.”

Police say an post-mortem is pending.

Mareer household says they need solutions

Whereas talking with reporters on Thurday, Syed Mareer described Subhan as a “future-oriented” youngster who cherished his life.

A couple of days earlier than the incident, Subhan was at Centre Island enjoying together with his brothers and pals. He requested his father if he may take him to Wonderland the weekend he died.

“He had so much to look forward to and that he was excited about,”  Mareer stated. “There was no indication of any mental health issues or depression. No teacher, parent, sibling, friend would ever say he did not want to be alive.”

“We cannot fathom that he intentionally put himself through strangulation,” Mareer stated.
