Dr. Julia Montgomery
“I am deeply humbled and genuinely excited to be joining the Ontario Veterinary College as its next dean,” Montgomery said. “Being entrusted with the leadership of Canada’s premier veterinary institution by the OVC community and the University of Guelph is a great honour.”
Most recently, Montgomery was a professor and department head of veterinary clinical services at Oklahoma State University after completing her postdoctoral fellowship in pulmonary pathobiology. Before that, she spent over ten years on faculty at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
Her research focuses on practical questions in equine medicine such as asthma, metabolic syndrome, laminitis, and rehabilitation. She aims to use innovative technologies to improve health outcomes for both animals and humans, aligning with U of G’s One Health Institute.
Montgomery earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany, and a Ph D from the University of Prince Edward Island. She also completed a Large Animal Internal Medicine (LAIM) residency before becoming a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in that specialty.
The OVC is recognized globally for advancing veterinary science through education and research. It consistently ranks among the top veterinary schools worldwide while training future veterinarians and health leaders who contribute to bettering animal health, human health, and our planet.
