Students at LCVI and Kingston Secondary are expected to be taking part in the walkout on Thursday.
High school students from various communities across the province are getting ready for coordinated walkouts to voice their concerns about changes to Ontario’s student aid program.
Organizers mention that students will quietly leave their classrooms to highlight cuts to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) made by the Doug Ford government.
Ashwen Foster, a Grade 12 student, says the protest aims to be peaceful and respectful while conveying a strong message.
Foster explains that worries about funding are already impacting students as they plan for their futures.
She points out that these effects could reach beyond current students and impact the province as a whole.
Foster adds that this situation has heightened anxiety among students who are worried about how affordable post-secondary education will shape their lives.
Organizers encourage all participating students to engage in a peaceful manner.
