This first Monday morning drive of 2026 might be tricky due to a quick but heavy snowfall.

Environment Canada has put out a special weather statement for the Waterloo Region, warning that we could see between 5 and 10 cm of snow during the morning commute. That statement has since been lifted.

“Another system bringing 5 to up to 10 cm of snow across Southern Ontario,” said 570’s Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi. “It will be heavy at times for the morning commute so do slow down, give yourself some extra time. The crews will be out clearing this snow.”

Expect heavier traffic this morning as many people in the region return to their offices after the holidays.

The snow should clear up as we move into the afternoon, but bad weather is expected to return on Tuesday morning.

“We have another system that’s a bit messier expected to bring us freezing rain and ice pellets,” said Andreacchi. “Temperatures this week are trending above seasonal and much higher than we were for the holiday season.”

The weather is forecasted to calm down by Wednesday morning with temperatures near freezing and cloudy skies.
