Thanks to the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), Pembroke will receive $2.15 million in 2026, while Petawawa is slated for $756,736. This funding is part of a larger investment of $11.6 million in the area, which the Ontario government states will assist municipalities with repairing and enhancing critical infrastructure like roads, bridges, water systems, and wastewater facilities.
On a provincial level, the government plans to distribute $400 million through OCIF to support 423 small, rural, and northern communities next year. The minimum grant amount for municipalities will increase from $100,000 to $125,000. Municipalities can also save OCIF funds for up to five years for larger projects.
Locally, funding has been allocated for 18 municipalities along with the County of Renfrew. Significant amounts include $1.85 million for the County of Renfrew itself, $1.7 million for the Town of Renfrew, and just over $1 million designated for the Town of Arnprior. Smaller townships like Greater Madawaska, Head Clara and Maria, and Mc Nab-Braeside will each get at least $125,000.

“We’re grateful to the Province of Ontario for investing in communities across the Ottawa Valley,” said Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault. “Small rural communities are the backbone of our riding and this support will go a long way in building the infrastructure that keeps our communities strong and makes them places we proudly call home.”
Since 2018, the Ontario government reports it has contributed $2.8 billion through OCIF to aid rural and northern municipalities. This fund is part of a larger provincial capital plan totaling around $200 billion that also features a new $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program designed to facilitate growth in developing areas.
Earlier this year, there was an announcement about granting Laurentian Valley $570,313 aimed at expanding water systems linked to future housing developments expected to create around 1,700 housing opportunities throughout Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
