Environment Canada has put out a yellow warning for Windsor-Essex due to the heavy rain expected.

The weather service indicates that rain, which could be heavy at times, is anticipated tonight and continuing into Wednesday.

Because the ground is already saturated or frozen, it won’t be able to absorb much of this rainfall, which could reach 20 to 40 mm. Even higher totals are possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.

According to Environment Canada, several low-pressure systems will bring significant rainfall to parts of southern Ontario, including Windsor-Essex.

The colour-coded weather alert system works as follows:

Yellow: Hazardous weather may cause damage, disruption, or health impacts.

Orange: Severe weather is likely to cause significant damage, disruption, or health impacts.

Red: Very dangerous and possibly life-threatening weather will lead to extreme damage and disruption.
