Two women have lost their lives after their vehicle collided with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon in Renfrew, Ont., as reported by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Officers arrived at the scene of the crash on Highway 17 around 12:45 p. m., according to a news release shared Wednesday morning. OPP temporarily closed the highway in both directions between Chenaux Road and Bruce Street.

The deceased, aged 54 and 78 from Val-des-Monts, Que., were driving and riding in the car, police said. They were taken to the hospital but unfortunately were pronounced dead there.

The only occupant of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries, according to police.

Authorities mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing and asked anyone who saw or has footage of the collision to reach out at 1-888-310-1122.
