A man lost his life in a crash north of Oshawa over the weekend.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the two-vehicle accident on Highway 7/12 close to Fourth Line in Port Perry shortly before 6 a. m. on Sunday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The preliminary investigation suggests that two cars were traveling in opposite directions when they collided head-on, as reported by the OPP.

Authorities stated that a 53-year-old man from Sunderland was declared dead at the scene. A 32-year-old man from Innisfil was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while a 35-year-old man from North York was airlifted to a regional trauma center due to serious injuries, police said.

All northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 7/12 in Port Perry were shut down for investigation on Sunday morning.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone who might have seen the crash or has dashcam footage from that area around the time of the incident is encouraged to reach out to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To provide information anonymously, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers. ca.
