The SIU is looking into an incident where Halton police shot a 23-year-old man multiple times after he drove towards officers during a traffic stop on March 8, 2026 (Mike Robertson/CHCH News).

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is currently investigating after Halton police shot and seriously wounded a man in Burlington early Sunday morning.

According to the SIU, around 12:30 a. m., police were in the parking lot of the Crestwood Motel on Plains Road East conducting a traffic stop.

Officials report that during this stop, the 23-year-old driver attempted to escape by hitting a police vehicle.

One officer fired at him several times, striking him multiple times.

SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette mentioned that the man was taken to a hospital in Hamilton and has since been discharged.

A woman who was also in the vehicle was not harmed.

If anyone has information about this incident, they are encouraged to reach out to the SIU at 1-800-787-8529 or through their website.
