Obituary of Robert Hans Meyer
With heavy hearts, the family of Robert Hans Meyer shares the news of his passing on June 21, 2025, at the age of 84 at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS.
Robert was born on April 29, 1941, in Aarau, Switzerland. After training as an instrumentation specialist, he left his homeland to seek adventure in Canada. He took on various technical roles in Quebec, Alberta, Newfoundland, and eventually settled in Petit Rocher, New Brunswick, where he met his first wife, Murielle. He later worked for 26 years at Michelin Tires in Granton, NS while raising his family in Westville.
A dedicated member of the Masonic Fraternity, Robert participated in many masonic orders and held several leadership positions including deputy grand master for Pictou County District and past master of the Western Star Lodge. For over ten years he served as secretary. His commitment to community service was strong throughout his life. Robert loved sharing his adventures with friends and family and often entertained guests with funny stories from his travels. He had a knack for DIY projects and was quick to embrace new technologies (he even introduced computers into production lines at Michelin) and constructed his own home!
Always eager for interesting projects, he enjoyed learning new languages, exploring new places or going on long walks (who’s up for a three-month pilgrimage across Europe?). After retiring, he joyfully found love again with Nicole and together they savored gourmet meals while exploring life with good friends.
Robert was pre-deceased by his first wife Murielle Marie Rita (neé Lagacé) and is survived by his wife Nicole Rose-Marie Roy; sister Anne-Marie Zipperlen (Otto Zipperlen); children Andrea Meyer (Patrick Hill), Stephan Meyer (Deanna Young), step-son René-Gilles Roy (Josée Chapdelaine); along with grandchildren Helena and Julien (Hill-)Meyer.
A Masonic Service will take place at 2:30 PM followed by visitation from 3 to 4 PM ending with a celebration of life at 4 PM. The funeral will be held at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville, NS (1611 North Main Street) on June 27th, 2025. In memory of Robert, donations can be made to a charity you care about most; if unsure the family suggests either the Canadian Lung Association or The Alzheimer’s Association of Canada.
