Durham police report that three individuals are now in custody while three others are still on the run after a violent armed break-in in Whitby early Tuesday morning.

Investigators say the incident took place around 2:50 a.m. on Nov. 4, when six masked intruders forced their way into a home near Applewood Crescent and Applewood Avenue. Authorities claim the suspects assaulted the homeowner with a gun before demanding car keys and other valuables.

The group fled in the victim’s blue Ford Raptor pickup truck and a Jeep Grand Cherokee they arrived in. Officers indicated that the suspects also tried to steal another vehicle from the garage but were unsuccessful.

Shortly afterward, officers found the Jeep abandoned on Highway 407. With help from the K9 Unit, police searched the area and apprehended three suspects without any trouble. The Jeep was later confirmed to have been stolen from Toronto prior to the home invasion. The stolen Ford Raptor was also recovered in Toronto.

Man from Mississauga Facing Multiple Charges

Police have identified one of the suspects as Robin Badwah, 43, from Mississauga, who is facing numerous charges including robbery, break-and-enter, pointing a firearm, disguise with intent, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and multiple counts of failing to comply with release orders, probation, and court orders.

Two teenagers from Toronto-a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy-are also charged with robbery, break-and-enter, pointing a firearm, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

All three suspects were held for a bail hearing.

Authorities report that three additional suspects remain at large. Investigators are asking anyone with cellphone footage, dashcam video, surveillance recordings or information about this incident to step forward.
