A significant investigation is in progress after six individuals were taken to the hospital following a collision involving multiple vehicles on Highway 7.

The incident took place on Sunday at approximately 5:30 p.m. Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Lanark detachment responded to the highway in Innisville, a small area located between Carleton Place and Perth, where five vehicles were involved.

Upon arrival, they discovered that six people had been injured, with ages ranging from 17 to 78.

Three individuals were hospitalized with injuries that could be life-threatening; one of these cases is considered potentially critical, as stated in the OPP’s press release. The seriously injured person is among the older adults, OPP Constable Corey Noonan shared during an interview with CityNews.

The other three victims received treatment at the hospital and are expected to be discharged by Monday. Authorities noted that those involved suffered “varying degrees of injuries.”

Highway 7 remained shut down until 4:00 a.m. Monday while investigators continued their work.

Noonan mentioned that weather conditions were generally good that day, although there was some fog as dusk approached. He indicated that the “chain of events” leading up to the crash began with one vehicle waiting to turn into the Ultramar Gas Station.

“We urge everyone to slow down,” said Bill Dickson, OPP media relations officer, in an interview with CityNews. “There’s a lower speed limit in this area. We ask everyone to reduce their speed when entering or exiting roadways.”

If anyone witnessed the accident or has relevant dashcam footage and hasn’t yet contacted law enforcement, they’re encouraged to reach out to the Lanark County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident E251583748.
