800 purses sure to bring hope to women’s shelters, charities

Purses with a Function is again for its sixth marketing campaign to supply purses and backpacks stuffed with requirements to charities and girls’s shelters and charities throughout the Halton and Hamilton areas.

Primarily based in Burlington, Purses with a Function was based in 2018 by Joyce Sharkey and Dianne Pruitt and has grown yearly since.

“It feels wonderful,” Sharkey stated. “The response from the donations that we’ve already made, they’ve all been very appreciative. We started out six years ago with 50 purses,” and final yr it was as much as 617.”

This yr, Purses with a Function has set a aim to donate 800 purses and backpacks to quite a lot of charities. The baggage may be crammed with issues like shampoo, physique wash, toiletries, hygiene merchandise, hand cream, hats, scarves, mitts, hair brushes and extra.

Purses with a Function has additionally expanded the variety of charities that it is going to be donating to this yr.

“We’re donating all of this to 12 charities,” Pruitt stated. “We started off with four or five in the first year, and now we’ve increased it to 12 charities across Halton and Hamilton.”

Halton Girls’s Shelter, Kerr Road Mission and the Compassion Society are a couple of of the charities that Purses with a Function plans to donate to this yr.

The marketing campaign is being supported by each South Road Burger and Oakville’s The Works, and South Road Burger’s Advertising Supervisor, Ryan Grant, offered vouchers to the volunteers for a free burger every.
