SIU investigating police-involved harm to male in Stone Mills – Kingston Information

OPP have confirmed that one particular person was injured in a “police-involved incident” within the Camden East space of Stone Mills Township on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 and in consequence, the province’s Particular Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate.

“Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, members of the Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and members of the OPP Emergency Response Team responded to a disturbance at a residence on Lennox and Addington County Road 4,” OPP Media Relations Officer Invoice Dickson defined in a press release on the incident.

“Upon arrival, officers attempted to communicate with a male inside the residence. During the interaction, the male exited the residence, and police discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon ENfield (ARWEN) and their firearm,” Dickson stated.

The male, a 41-year-old in line with SIU, was subsequently transported to a hospital in Kingston with a number of critical accidents.

The realm was closed till about 8 p.m. on Friday night.

“As the SIU has invoked its mandate, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information,” Dickson stated.

In a launch, the SIU added that OPP officers had initially attended the residence to analyze a disturbance grievance, and officers made makes an attempt to talk to a person who was contained in the residence.

“At some point,” SIU stated, “the man exited the residence with an edged weapon.”

Based on SIU, two OPP officers deployed Anti-Riot Weapon ENfields, whereas one other officer discharged a firearm and the person was struck.

Three SIU investigators and two forensic investigators have now been assigned to the case.

“At this time, one subject official and nine witness officials have been designated,” SIU stated.
