Police east of Toronto say they’re anticipating to see as many as 1,000 Hells Angels members because the membership holds its nationwide motorbike run this weekend.


“We do not want to create panic,” Durham Regional Police Service Deputy Chief Dean Bertrim mentioned at a information convention Monday forward of the occasion. “But we have an obligation, and in all fairness, I have a responsibility, to make sure that our community is aware and provided the accurate information.”


The Hells Angels Bike Membership (HAMC) chapter based mostly in Brooklin, north of Whitby, will host the 2022 Canada Run from July 22 to 24.


Officers mentioned they hope the annual meetup, which is able to see members journey from throughout the nation and past to participate, shall be “uneventful” however requested members of the general public to maintain their distance.


“If you see a large group of motorcycles, outlaw motorcycle club riders, don’t interact, maintain your distance. Try to stay out of the line of motorcycles and be safe,” OPP Det/Insp. Scott Wade burdened.


Forward of the three-day occasion, Dep. Chief Bertrim acknowledged police are conscious of social media posts by supporters of the Hells Angels, which have taken challenge with the service’s proactive strategy.


“Let me be clear today: They are an organized crime group who have consistently proven to be responsible for all manner of crimes including drug trafficking, illegal gambling, human trafficking, firearms and acts of violence perpetrated by their members and or through support clubs,” Bertrim mentioned.


Bertrim mentioned these crimes have been highlighted by Challenge KAKIA, a 2021 police investigation that focused organized crime networks in Durham and included members of the Hells Angels and the Purple Devils motorbike golf equipment.

Some 32 firearms and ammunition, $300,000 in money, and $1.2 million price of medicine have been seized in that operation.


Police added that there shall be an elevated police presence within the space at some stage in the occasion and that native companies have already been briefed on what to anticipate come Friday.


The Hells Angels Bike Membership spans 5 continents and 59 nations and international membership is estimated to be within the 1000’s.
