Two men from Brampton are dealing with driving charges after different events on rural Ontario roads, including one accused of stunt driving for allegedly going nearly double the speed limit.
In the first case, a 23-year-old was pulled over by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Colborne Street West at Lois Crescent in the County of Brant, located 100 km southwest of Brampton on Sunday, Oct. 25.
An officer who was monitoring speeds around 1:30 p. m. noticed a vehicle going about 110 km/h in a zone where the limit is 60 km/h.
The driver was charged with stunt driving due to excessive speed, speeding between 1 and 49 km/h over the limit, and not having his driver’s licence available.
His licence has been suspended for 30 days, and his vehicle will be impounded for 14 days under Ontario’s stunt-driving laws.
In another incident just days later, another man faced charges after a collision involving a commercial vehicle in Middlesex County.
OPP officers were called to Melbourne Road, north of Murphy Drive in the Township of Adelaide Metcalfe, about 180 km west of Brampton, shortly after noon on Thursday, Oct. 29.
According to police reports, the commercial vehicle had gone into a ditch. The 43-year-old driver from Brampton was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
After looking into the situation further, authorities charged him with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
Strathroy Fire Services also responded to help at the scene of the crash.
The identities of both men have not been released by police.
This serves as another reminder that reckless driving can lead to serious repercussions, especially on rural roads where speed limits and road conditions can change significantly.
