An officer with the Ontario Provincial Police has been charged with assault following an incident during an arrest north of Brampton late last year.
The Special Investigations Unit states that the event took place on Dec. 26, 2025, at a home in Caledon East. However, it wasn’t brought to the SIU’s attention until Feb. 4, which was also when the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency notified them.
The SIU reports that OPP officers were dispatched to a disturbance outside the residence, where a male suspect was taken into custody for making threats.
During this process, investigators claim there was “an interaction” between the officers and the man while he was being handcuffed “that resulted in the man suffering a serious injury.”

The SIU serves as Ontario’s police oversight agency responsible for investigating incidents involving deaths, serious injuries, firearm discharges or allegations of sexual assault involving police officers.
