A fundraiser is underway for 11-year-old Talon Brock, who will be traveling to the Texas Youth World Baseball Classic for two weeks in March 2027.
If you order pizza from the Collingwood Dominos next month on specific days, $5 from each sale will go towards helping Talon Brock reach his baseball dreams.
The 11-year-old student at Beaver Valley Community School has been selected for the U11 Team Canada, competing in March 2027 at the Texas Youth World Baseball Classic. In an interview, he shared that he could hardly believe it when he received the news.
“I was really excited. I couldn’t believe I was actually going to play for Team Canada,” said Brock.
The former pitcher and catcher with the Collingwood Jays now plays for the Ontario Cobras based out of Barrie. When asked what draws him to baseball, his answer is straightforward.
“My teammates,” he said.
Kristen Slemko, Brock’s mom, mentioned that her son got into sports thanks to his older brother, who plays hockey.
“He fell in love with baseball, and it was baseball 24/7,” she said. “I’m extremely proud but also nervous for him. He’s worked hard and given everything to it.”
As he looks ahead to his future, Brock expresses interest in pursuing one of two paths: either a career with MLB (Major League Baseball) or joining the Canadian military.
“You can’t just do it; you need to earn it,” he said.
To assist Brock in getting to Texas next March, Slemko is working on raising about $5,000 excluding food costs needed for the trip. She hopes they can gather around $2,000 through community donations.
Slemko noted that Dominos in Collingwood plans to run a promotion on Thursdays next month where $5 from every order placed with a specific code will support Brock’s travel expenses. More details about the dates and code will be posted soon on their Facebook page.
“We’re very thankful to be in such a welcoming community,” said Slemko.
