OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) – Drake Batherson scored three goals and added an assist as the Ottawa Senators defeated the New York Rangers 7-4 on Saturday night.
Jake Sanderson’s first goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner, while Michael Amadio capped it off with an empty-netter. Tim Stutzle and Dylan Cozens also found the net, and Jonas Johansson made 24 saves in his debut for Ottawa.
For the Rangers, Will Cuylle, J. T. Miller, Alexis Lafreniere, and Pavel Dorofeyev each scored. Dylan Garand recorded 17 saves during the match.
Sanderson’s opening goal was crucial. Garand stopped a shot from Ridly Greig initially, but Sanderson capitalized on the rebound to extend their lead to 5-3.
The Rangers narrowed the gap again when Dorofeyev fired a quick shot past Johansson with just 4:28 left in the game.
