After discovering an old set of golf clubs that once belonged to his great-grandfather three years ago, Oliver Watt has become a medallist in Ontario high school golf.
The Grade 10 student from Mitchell District High School shone during this year’s golf season, excelling beyond just the high school events. He clinched the Huron-Perth boys’ golf title in Seaforth at the end of September with an impressive score of 3-under 69. He then finished tied for first at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association championships in St. Thomas on Oct. 5 with a score of 4-over 76, ultimately taking third place after a playoff round. At the Ontario high school championship (OFSAA) held in Windsor on Oct. 15-16, he placed third among high school students with scores of 75 and 71.
“He’s come a very long way in a short time,” said Ethan Hunt, Watt’s golf coach. “As we all know, golf is not an easy sport by any means, but especially when you start bringing in competition and it means something. He’s come so far.
