The effects of Wednesday’s intense storms in southern Ontario are still causing problems, with a part of Huntington Rd in Vaughan completely washed away by floodwaters.

Emergency teams were able to rescue drivers from two tractor trailers that ended up in the water after the road gave way into a rushing creek. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Huntington Rd, located between Rutherford Rd and Trade Valley Drive, is closed indefinitely because of a large sinkhole.

York Regional Police stated that Huntington Rd, between Rutherford Rd and Trade Valley Dr, will stay closed indefinitely due to the damage.

Officials are advising drivers to steer clear of the area.

The storms brought strong winds, heavy rain, and hail, causing widespread flooding throughout southern Ontario. There were reports of downed trees, power outages affecting around 65,000 residents, and numerous vehicle rescues as local drainage systems couldn’t handle the heavy rainfall. Toronto police mentioned they received about 300 calls regarding downed power lines within the last day.

Severe weather alerts were issued during this time, including tornado warnings. The intense rainfall overwhelmed infrastructure and showed just how susceptible urban areas can be to sudden flooding.

Emergency responders acted quickly and managed to save the motorists without any injuries reported.

Residents should stay alert as recovery efforts are ongoing in affected regions. Keep informed through local advisories and avoid places at risk for flooding or structural damage.
