York Region police have identified the vehicle linked to a tragic hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman earlier this month.
The woman’s body was left on the roadside for two days before it was discovered.
Authorities say she got off a bus on Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan and was walking north on Pine Valley Drive at around 8:30 p. m. on October 4 when she was struck.
The Richmond Hill resident was heading to her job as a live-in caregiver at the time, according to York Region Police Constable Kevin Nebrija.
On October 6, someone living nearby noticed her and called the police.
“The caller got close enough to see someone was there and not responding,” he explained.
Officers arrived only to find that she had already died. Her suitcase was located nearby, he added.

“It is absolutely tragic that she was struck and essentially left on the side of the road for two days,” he said.
“We don’t know if she was killed instantly or if she was suffering.”
“The brazenness of the driver to leave her on the side of the road like that, for two days, and not even seeking any help, has put [them] in the spotlight here.”
Police revealed Friday that they are looking for a white 2020 to 2022 Mercedes-Benz sprinter van as the suspect vehicle.

Investigators shared surveillance footage showing the van turning into a subdivision near where it happened.
The local community contributed video evidence, and police found debris from the vehicle at the scene, which helped them identify its make, said Nebrija.
“We hope that the driver sees the video, talks to legal counsel and turns themselves in,” said Nebrija. He added that police believe the driver knows they hit someone.
The investigators are asking auto repair shops or body shops to be vigilant for any sprinter vans with damage in front.

“To the driver: consult legal counsel and turn yourself in. We already have the vehicle on video. It’s going to be a matter of time before our investigators are able to determine who the driver is,” he stated.
“We want the driver to do the right thing here, bring some closure to the victim’s family.”
