A long-time Burger King has closed.
A longtime Burger King that has been a familiar stop for west Mississauga residents has closed, and its departure appears to be clearing the way for a new Chick-fil-A at the site.
The restaurant was located at 2460 Winston Churchill Boulevard at the southwest corner of Dundas Street West.
While technically an Oakville address, the plaza is a popular shopping destination for residents in both communities, particularly people living in west Mississauga.
The Burger King closed without warning recently, and the building now sits empty awaiting its future.
And that future likely is a conversion into a Chick-fil-A restaurant.
The Town of Oakville continues to list the location as an active site plan application by Chick-fil-A. The plans call for the existing single-storey fast-food restaurant to be demolished and replaced with a new single-storey restaurant with a double drive-through.
The application has also progressed since the proposal was first reported by INSAUGA Canada earlier this year.
The town’s development file shows multiple rounds of submissions, including revised plans submitted in February and another round of documents submitted in April.
The latest plans call for a Chick-fil-A of about 418 square metres, or roughly 4,500 square feet, along with a patio and a double drive-through.

There is still no confirmed opening date, and the proposal must complete the town’s planning and approval process before construction can proceed.
For Mississauga residents, however, the proposed restaurant would be considerably closer than the address might suggest.
The site is just west of Winston Churchill Boulevard’s Mississauga-Oakville boundary, and the plaza is anchored by familiar retailers including Winners, Sport Chek and Staples.
The Burger King had been a fixture at the location for at least 20 years.

A once popular Burger King now sits empty.
That history means the proposed redevelopment represents more than simply another fast-food restaurant opening for people in the area. A familiar business used by residents for years is disappearing, with a popular American chicken chain poised to take its place.
Chick-fil-A already has two Mississauga restaurants, at Square One and Heartland Town Centre. There is also one planned for Erin Mills Town Centre.
If approved and built, the Winston Churchill Boulevard restaurant would be the first Chick-fil-A in Oakville – while remaining within a short drive for thousands of Mississauga residents.
Chick-fil-A’s arrival would also give west Mississauga residents another nearby option for the chain’s chicken sandwiches, nuggets, strips and other menu items without having to travel farther east into Mississauga.
For now, though, the most noticeable change is the one that has already happened: after years at the busy Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street West intersection, the Burger King is gone.
The next question is whether Chick-fil-A will soon take its place.
