The University of Guelph has named Paul Hoekstra as the first executive director of Agri-Food Strategy and Partnerships.
“U of G’s ability to connect world-class research with real-world opportunities sets it apart,” said Hoekstra in a statement. “I look forward to working with partners across the sector to drive innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness for Ontario agriculture and beyond.”
Hoekstra, who previously served as vice president of strategic development at Grain Farmers of Ontario, will begin his new role on Nov. 9.
This new position will link the university’s research capabilities with industry needs, fostering collaboration throughout the agri-food sector.
“U of G has a unique role in shaping the future of Ontario’s agri-food sector,” said Dr. Rene Van Acker, the university’s president and vice-chancellor. “Paul will strengthen how we work with partners across the sector, bringing the right people and expertise together to advance shared priorities and seize new opportunities.”
Hoekstra comes with over 20 years of experience in leadership roles within Ontario’s agri-food sector.
According to the U of G statement, advancing the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance, which is a province-wide platform for agri-food research, training and innovation, will be a key focus for Hoekstra in this new position.
