Bruce Power has enhanced its commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness by forming a formal partnership with Ontario Corps, the provincial government’s emergency response program.
By teaming up with this group of organizations and volunteers, the energy provider will assist in executing the province’s plan to deliver essential aid and respond swiftly to local emergencies.
“We are pleased to welcome Bruce Power to the growing Ontario Corps network,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “As a leader in safety and preparedness, Bruce Power brings valuable expertise, equipment, facilities and industry connections that can help support emergency response efforts across Ontario.”
If an emergency arises, Bruce Power can offer its facilities, staff, specialized tools, vehicles, and heavy machinery to support response operations when those assets are available. The operator can also leverage its extensive network of suppliers, contractors, industry groups, and commercial partners to obtain crucial supplies and share important supply chain information. Additionally, the company is ready to provide risk assessment, incident management planning, technical advice, volunteer mobilization support, and public relations assistance while actively encouraging its employees to join the corps.
“At Bruce Power, safety and preparedness are at the core of everything we do,” said James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “Joining Ontario Corps is a natural extension of our commitment to supporting the communities we serve and helping build a more resilient Ontario. Through our people, resources, facilities and industry partnerships, we are proud to support emergency preparedness and response efforts while encouraging our employees to contribute their skills and expertise when Ontarians need them most.”
Designed for rapid deployment within 24 to 72 hours, the Ontario Corps provides vital assistance to affected areas by sending personnel along with equipment like flood barriers, drones for aerial surveillance, debris clearance machines, and necessary relief supplies.
The initiative invites volunteers from all professional backgrounds and experience levels while offering complete training. Recruits are assigned based on their skills, preferences, and availability within partner groups.
The nuclear generator already has a comprehensive internal emergency management system equipped with dedicated first responders as well as specialized equipment and trained personnel.
“Bruce Power recognizes that strong emergency preparedness depends on collaboration and partnerships,” said Jeff Steven, Bruce Power’s Chief Security Officer and Head of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “We are pleased to support Ontario Corps in its mission of assisting communities during critical times. This partnership will enhance emergency response capabilities across Ontario ensuring resources can be deployed quickly when needed.”
