A 25-year-old man from Cambridge lost his life in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer early Tuesday morning just outside of Windham Centre.

Brantford Road remains closed between Windham Centre Road and Windham Road 7 while the Norfolk OPP looks into the details surrounding this tragic accident.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, arrived at the scene around 6:45 a. m.

Sgt. Ed Sanchuk from the West Region OPP said the driver sustained critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries.

“I want to thank the good Samaritans who stopped to provide assistance who definitely made a very difficult situation just a little bit easier,” said Sanchuk in a video shared on social media.

Sanchuk expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, stating, “as your family member is not coming home. You’re all in our thoughts.”

He also urged another driver involved who hit a road closed sign at the site, “causing significant damage not only to the sign but to their vehicle,” to reach out to Norfolk County OPP and file a collision report.

“It’s best that you come and talk to us before we have to come and knock on your door.”

Sanchuk warned other motorists against ignoring road closed signs, emphasizing “for everyone’s safety.”

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team is helping with the investigation. They are asking anyone who might have seen the crash or has dash cam footage or relevant information to contact Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident E261486869.

To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous online tip at helpsolvecrime. com where you may qualify for a reward of up to $2,000.
