Sarnia police have shared more information about a recent major seizure of drugs and a firearm, leading to the arrest of two men-one from Sarnia and the other from the Toronto area.
Officers with a tactical unit executed a search warrant on a home and vehicle located in the 2900 block of Confederation Line in Sarnia around 10:30 p. m. on August 10, according to a release from the police on Wednesday.
The officers recovered 176 grams of cocaine, 133 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a loaded.40-caliber Glock 27 handgun, over $27,000 in cash, along with drug paraphernalia, police reported.
A 35-year-old man from Scarborough and a 52-year-old man from Sarnia are facing charges for possessing both cocaine and crystal meth for trafficking purposes, according to law enforcement. The Scarborough resident also faces multiple firearm-related charges as well as possession of property obtained through crime valued at over $5,000.
Both individuals were held while awaiting bail hearings and are now involved in court proceedings, police added.
While authorities did not disclose their identities initially, court documents indicate that Malcolm Cassells, age 35, and Lawrence Park, age 52, are implicated in this case.
Records show both men attended Sarnia bail court on August 11.
Cassells remains in custody. Park, who resides on Confederation Line in Sarnia, was granted release on $5,000 bail. He is prohibited from contacting Cassells or possessing any weapons while out on bail and must return to court on September 16.
Cassells has participated in additional court appearances via video link three times since then and was scheduled for another appearance Wednesday. He is not allowed to communicate with Park during his time in jail.
No charges have been proven in court yet.
