Two individuals have died following a small plane crash in southwestern Ontario.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported that first responders were alerted to a field near the intersection of Beatty Line and Wellington Road 17, just outside of Fergus, around 10:15 a. m. on Friday.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) stated that an amateur-built Skybolt biplane took off from the airport in Fergus around 10 a. m. as part of a local aerobatic training flight with two skilled pilots aboard.
“The aircraft crashed a short time later in corn field 2 kilometers northwest of the airfield and came to rest in an inverted position,” the TSB said in a brief statement.
Provincial police noted that a fire that erupted after the crash was put out, and both occupants of the plane were pronounced dead at the scene.
The ages, genders, and hometowns of the victims were not immediately available.
The TSB mentioned it will continue to gather and analyze information over the coming weeks to determine what led to the crash.
