One person has lost their life following a two-vehicle accident that also left another driver injured in Severn, located north of Barrie, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 11 northbound, close to South Sparrow Lake and Goldstein roads, just before 4 a. m. after receiving reports about a driver traveling in the wrong direction, OPP stated in a news release on Saturday evening.
A pickup truck collided with an SUV, leading to one driver being declared dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police reported.
Authorities are holding off on releasing the identity of the deceased until their next of kin have been informed, according to the release.
A section of Highway 11 northbound was shut down in both directions for several hours as investigators worked at the scene but has since reopened, police mentioned.
