Bruce Power and its supplier partners have come together to donate $100,000 to the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO), helping young patients and their families deal with cancer diagnoses and treatments.
This contribution will support POGO in providing specialized services for children in treatment, survivors, and their families throughout the province.
“Bruce Power and our supplier partners believe strongly in the high-quality wrap-around care and supports POGO has developed over the years to serve its young patients and families,” said Pat Dalzell, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs, Market Development and Operational Services at Bruce Power. “By supporting POGO, families can be assured they will receive the best emotional, practical and financial support throughout their cancer care.”
The yearly partnership between the nuclear operator and its business allies helps ensure steady funding for essential provincial programs.
“We are thrilled at the consistent and unyielding support Bruce Power and its supplier partners provide to Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario year after year,” said Lauren Ettin, Chief Executive Officer of POGO. “This ongoing generosity helps us strengthen and confidently deliver vital programs to support children and youth with cancer, survivors and their families with the best possible care.”
In addition to charitable donations, Bruce Power is also a key player in global cancer treatment by producing medical isotopes. The company’s reactors generate Cobalt-60, which sterilizes 40 percent of medical devices worldwide and assists in treating breast cancer as well as brain tumors.
Moreover, Bruce Power expanded its facilities in 2022 and 2024 by adding two Isotope Production Systems for creating lutetium-177-a medical isotope used for treating prostate cancer along with neuroendocrine tumors. A third production system is planned for installation in Unit 6 by 2027 to enhance supply redundancy while keeping up with new medical research.
