Durham regional police have announced that they’ve charged the suspect who, along with another officer, was injured during a police shooting over the weekend.
The shooting occurred on Sunday around 10:45 a. m. when officers responded to a home on Cedar Street in Oshawa, Ont., for an “armed person.”
Upon their arrival, officers encountered a man holding a knife, according to the Special Investigations Unit, which looks into incidents involving civilians and police.
The SIU reported that during the interaction with the suspect, both an officer and the suspect were shot by another Durham police officer.

The officer was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while the suspect sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the SIU.
The agency also mentioned that there’s no indication that the suspect had a firearm. They stated that the call made to the residence was regarding mental health issues.

In an update shared on Monday night, Durham police said they charged 27-year-old Tyler Vilneff with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and possessing a weapon dangerous to public safety.
