An Ontario judge has canceled the bail of a Toronto man found guilty of being involved in terrorist group activities.

Kristoffer Nippak, 33, was convicted in Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Sept. 9 for creating recruitment and propaganda videos for the Atomwaffen Division, a now-defunct international neo-Nazi group that was labeled a terrorist entity in Canada.

Nippak participated in producing two recruitment videos that encouraged violence against minorities. He had been under strict house arrest since his arrest in December 2023 and was required to wear a GPS ankle monitor. He hoped to stay out on bail until his sentencing.

Justice Maureen Forestell stated in a Toronto courtroom on Monday that the crime is an “extremely serious” one as it threatens the fundamental security of the community. She mentioned that society as a whole-especially any non-white individual and members of the Jewish community-are the targeted victims here.

“I conclude that public confidence in the administration of justice would be undermined if Mr. Nippak were allowed to remain on release in the community after his conviction for this offence,” Forestell said.

Forestell indicated that Nippak will probably receive a “substantial” prison sentence.

Sentencing Scheduled for Next Month

The judge acknowledged that Nippak has no prior criminal record, his family would supervise him if his bail continued, and he has followed his conditions.

However, she remarked that Nippak hasn’t demonstrated why he should be released before sentencing.

His former co-accused, Matthew Althorpe from Niagara region, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for three terrorism-related charges back in March.

Both Althorpe and Nippak were arrested following an 18-month investigation conducted by the RCMP across central Quebec, eastern and northern Ontario, as well as Niagara region.

On Monday, Nippak embraced family members before being led away in handcuffs. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month.
