Lo MASCOLO, Giovanni
It is with great sadness that we share the news of Giovanni Lo Mascolo’s passing at the age of 94 on September 18, 2026. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Born in Siculiana, Agrigento province in Sicily, he moved to Montreal in 1959. In 1965, Giovanni relocated his family to Windsor to begin a new chapter while leaving behind cherished relatives in Sicily and Montreal.
Giovanni spent over 68 wonderful years married to his dear wife Giuseppina (Giacomazza). Their relationship was built on love, loyalty, and strong commitment. They devoted themselves to their family and worked side by side for many years. He always treated his wife with respect and affection, embodying the true essence of a loving gentleman.
Giovanni was a proud father to Anna (Vince), Tony (2017) (Rosana), and Giovanna (Domenic). He was known as “nonno Gianni” to Piero (Laura), Francesca (Joseph), John Paul (Andrea), John (Diana), Anthony, Marc, Josie, Joseph (Suzana), Gianmarco (Stefanie) & Luciana (Matthew). As a “bisnonno,” he delighted in his 11 great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and happiness.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents Antonino & Anna Lo Mascolo; siblings Pasquale (the late Caterina) Lo Mascolo and Giuseppe (survived by sister-in-law Teresa) Lo Mascolo; parents-in-law Giovanna & Salvatore Giacomazza; and sisters-in-law Scolastica Moscato & Caterina Cuffaro.
Giovanni was a hardworking individual who started out selling door-to-door before establishing a successful retail/wholesale business. He proudly owned John’s Imports Textiles Ltd., which included Lomas Fabrics. Together with his supportive wife, he built a thriving business within the Italian community on Erie St E., lasting over 60 years. It filled him with joy when his son Tony joined him in the business. Giovanni genuinely valued his customers and took an interest in their lives, always making them feel welcome at his store.
A kind-hearted man who enjoyed socializing and respected everyone he met; Giovanni made an impact on all those around him. His dedication to both family and business brought him immense pride. He loved traveling for work and pleasure alike, visiting Italy numerous times throughout the years.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Franca and Tony along with the staff at Dolce Vita Retirement Living as well as Hospice of Windsor/Essex for their kind care during this time. A special thank you goes out to Mirella, niece Anna (Pasquale), and nephew Tony for their love and support. Donations can be made to Hospice of Windsor/Essex or any charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held at the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – South Chapel (3048 Dougall Ave., 519-253-7236) from 2-5 pm & 7-9 pm on Wednesday, September 23. Parish prayers will take place at 3:00 pm that day. A Funeral Mass will occur at St. Angela Merici Church (980 Louis Ave., Windsor) on Thursday September 24, 2026 at 11:00 am followed by entombment at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
