This week, Moe is attending the World Nuclear Symposium in London, leading a trade and investment mission to highlight Saskatchewan as the preferred region for nuclear collaboration.

Our trip to London for the World Nuclear Symposium might feel distant from home, but our message connects directly to Saskatchewan’s history and future.

The Saskatchewan government reports that over the last five years, exports to the U. K. have surged nearly 178 percent. This growth has been largely attributed to uranium, which made up about 57 percent of its total U. K. exports in 2025.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith mentioned she has a list of 34 proposed projects she’ll present to investors in Toronto. Meanwhile, New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt stated she will advocate for several projects including a port expansion, a data center in Lorneville, and a rehabilitation initiative known as the Mactaquac lifetime achievement project.

This investment event is being co-hosted by the Prime Minister’s Office along with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Public Sector Pension Investments-two of Canada’s largest asset management firms.

The summit represents a key part of the capital-focused agenda Carney set out when he took office 18 months ago. Since then, he has reshaped federal policies and Ottawa’s budget framework to direct spending towards vital infrastructure and major projects.

Carney aims to “catalyze” $1 trillion in investments across Canada over five years-a target some experts consider ambitious.

Mahmood Nanji from the Ivey School of Business at Western University pointed out that Canada has faced a significant decline in business investment for much of the past decade. This lack of investment has contributed to low productivity and slow economic growth.

“This has been somewhat of Canada’s Achilles heel over recent decades. That’s why I think Prime Minister Carney saw this as his major bet on revitalizing the Canadian economy when he was elected,” Nanji explained.

Critics often attribute this investment gap to historical regulatory hurdles along with long timelines and uncertainties surrounding project approvals in Canada.

Energy sector seen as attractive

The CPP Investment Board’s Insights division released a report Monday surveying 65 top global asset managers on their views regarding Canadian investment opportunities.

The energy sector stands out internationally as Canada’s most appealing area for investment but also comes with higher risks. Concerns about policy changes, regulatory inconsistencies, and constraints related to scale or liquidity were frequently mentioned by those surveyed.

The Conservative party highlights what it calls “anti-development laws” alongside costs like the industrial carbon price as Liberal policies hindering resource extraction and manufacturing industries.

The CPP’s survey also emphasized Canada’s advantages in competing for global capital.

Canada received high marks for its openness to capital flow and performance during energy transition efforts; it was only second behind Singapore concerning policy stability and predictability.

Almost 70 percent of investors rated predictability as extremely important or crucial when deciding where to invest their money.

Jeremy Kronick from the C. D. Howe Institute noted that since taking office in March 2025, Carney has taken several actions signaling that Canada is “open for business.” For example, initiatives like the major projects office aim at expediting approvals for nation-building endeavors.

Kronick believes these steps are enough to start changing perceptions about Canada being an attractive destination for investments but acknowledged there’s still more work needed regarding other challenges such as interprovincial trade barriers-those regulatory issues that can create uncertainty around otherwise viable projects.

“I think there’s been progress made on changing attitudes. However, altering regulatory processes remains difficult,” Kronick said.

Political sentiment seems more favorable lately which could help gain public support for large-scale projects too , according to Nanji.

Angus Reid polling conducted last July indicated widespread backing for a new pipeline running from Alberta all way down into B. C.’s coastline. However , significant undertakings such these tend also attract litigation , so officials need ensure Indigenous stakeholders back plans before making promises investors

“There are still risks involved. They haven’t gone away entirely , but they’re not nearly as daunting compared what we experienced maybe ten years ago ” , he commented.

Signs show external capital showing renewed interest towards investing within Canadian markets. Statistics Canada reported foreign direct investments hitting $96.8 billion last year – marking highest level seen since two thousand seven.

Doug Porter , chief economist at BMO Financial Group stated majority influx foreign money thus far came through mergers acquisitions rather than greenfield developments organizers upcoming summit hope launch new ventures !

U. S Trade war likely won’t derail prospects

Given context ongoing US-Canada trade tensions figures encouraging remarked Porter added :
All else equal expected see drop-off incoming funds due Trump’s aggressive tariff plans risk jeopardizing access America ’ s marketplace ;

Experts consulted by The Canadian Press confirmed escalation tariff conflict recently would be addressed during summit discussions yet may not prove fatal roadblock potential deals ahead ;

Attendees will receive details regarding assorted proposals likely covering ports pipelines critical minerals extraction initiatives among others ! Nanji insisted means many opportunities presented investors entail moving Canadian goods alternative markets beyond merely United States ;

“Some prospective financiers could feel uneasy relations USA.. however if particular undertakings lead exportation product into alternate territories outcomes might sway decision-making process ” he expressed thoughtfully.

While engaging reporters outside cabinet retreat held Banff Thursday morning Carney hinted focus messaging directed toward investors would emphasize reliability supplied amidst increasingly uncertain world landscape ;
“Canada offers so much beyond proximity neighborly states! We possess exactly what global community craves,” declared himself confidently!
