What’s Open in Ottawa for Labour Day?

Monday, Sept. 7 is Labour Day across Canada which will cause certain closures around the city.

Retail and Grocery

Some Farm Boy locations will be open on Labour Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, with adjusted hours. Farm Boy Rideau is open from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m.

Both Loblaws on Isabella Street and Rideau will operate from 7 a. m. to 10 p. m. A few Metros and Whole Foods will also be available.

Most other major grocery stores will be closed.

If you’re looking to shop, Rideau Centre will be open on Labour Day from 10 a. m. until 6 p. m. By Ward Market and the Glebe will also be open along with Tanger Outlets.

Bayshore Shopping Centre, Carlingwood Shopping Centre, St. Laurent Centre and Place d’Orleans will remain closed on Labour Day.

Transportation

If you need to travel by bus or train, OC Transpo will follow a Sunday schedule for Labour Day.

O-Train Line 1 will run from 8 am to 11 pm.  O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will operate from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm.  Rural Shopper Route 301 won’t be running.

Regular Para Transpo bookings for Monday, Sep. 7 are automatically cancelled. Customers can call 613-560-5000 or use My Para Transpo to arrange trips on Labour Day.

Recreation

Outdoor pools and wading pools are closed for the season and beaches won’t have supervision. If weather allows, splash pads throughout the city should be open.

City-run museums, galleries, Ben Franklin Place and Shenkman Arts Centre will all close on Monday.

All branches of Ottawa Public Library will shut down for Labour Day.

Services and Other Closures

The 311 phone line will operate for urgent matters only. The courts and Service Ottawa offices will close along with all dental and sexual health clinics.

All four Employment and Social Services offices won’t be open on Monday, September 7. Child care centres will also stay closed all day.

No garbage or recycling collection is scheduled for Labour Day; instead it’ll happen on Tuesday, Sep. 8. For the rest of that week, collections will take place one day later than usual.
